Hosted Mountain Lion Server Part 16: FTP

Mountain Lion Server

FTP is a service that most people think about when they think about servers. FTP has been the way many people upload files to servers and while it is an older service it is something many still rely on today. Built into Mountain Lion Server is an FTP service that lets you specify a folder to use as your FTP folder. In this screencast I cover:

  • How to select a folder to use for your FTP Service.
  • Adding the necessary permissions to your FTP folder.
  • How to open TCP ports 20 & 21.
  • How to access your FTP share using terminal and an FTP client.

Some customers also like the 3rd party Rumpus FTP Server for OSX which includes a simple Web Interface to allow users to send/receive files without a FTP client.
