Hosted Mountain Lion Server Part 31: SFTP

Mountain Lion Server

FTP allows you to transfer files and folders to your server. FTP is not very secure however, and many people have started using SFTP as a replacement. SFTP is basically FTP through SSH which makes the communications secure back and forth. In this screencast I cover:

  • Making sure your server is set up to use SFTP.
  • Make sure TCP port 22 is open in your firewall.
  • How to connect through SFTP in terminal and how to transfer files back and forth.
  • How to use an FTP client like Forklift to connect through SFTP to transfer files and folders through a drag and drop interface.
