Hosted OS X Mountain Lion Server Part 7: Open Directory
In this screencast tutorial I cover setting up an Open Directory Master for your server. An Open Directory allows for network accounts and is required for some of Mountain Lion's services like Profile Manager and allowing users to use a single sign on for all computers on your network. Setting up Open Directory on Mountain Lion Server is very straight forward with a built in wizard guiding you through the process. Once enabled, you will be able to set up new user accounts that are local network users (available anywhere on the network) as opposed to local users only (only available on your current local machine).
In future screencasts we will cover how to bind clients to the Open Directory, set up network accounts for users, and using home folders that reside on the server allowing someone to access their desktop from any computer on your network.
